The Story:
The shape of the Amalfi Coast will be forever etched in my mind. Reminiscent of Big Sur and the Northern California coast, there is something so visually satisfying about cliffs that rise dramatically out of the sea. It's particularly beautiful at sunset when the cliffs turn a dark inky blue and all detail of land is lost. It gives a reprieve for the eyes to settle on the colors of the sky as they transform into varying hues of pink. I was driving on the road between Positano and Praiano when I pulled off to capture this brief moment where the ocean became a mirror for the sky. It was moments after the sun had sunk into the sea for a deep slumber. As if in celebration of another day's passing, the horizon turned a dusty pink and perfectly silhouetted the coastal cliffs.
